Geopolitical risk and instability is a recurring concern mentioned when overseas investors consider allocating capital to Southeast Asia and may even become a strong deterrent for investing in the region. In the not-so-distant past, perception that ASEAN lacked political stability, thus was too unpredictable versus dependable developed markets peers, may have indeed been close to reality but evidence over the last decade plus paints a rather different picture.
